Welcome to the International School of Music!
NO Lessons on Queens' Birthday Monday 4th June. (Saturday classes run as usual on long weekends)
The International School of Music's aim is to teach music as a language. The instruction is aurally based to maximise learning in young students, encouraging not only a love of music, but an understanding of music. The concept of ISM courses is simple: what you hear, you sing; what you sing, you play; what you play, you read; what you read, you write.
The director of the International School of Music Christchurch, Nicky Fryer, opened New Zealand’s first ISM school in 2003. Since then the school has grown and grown in popularity.
The Christchurch music school currently runs preschool music classes, and group music and piano lessons six days per week with approx 300 students attending every week. All of our pre-school and group piano classes are written specifically for kids, and are vibrant, fun and exciting. The music school also offers private piano lessons to graduates of the group courses.
Group preschool, and music and piano classes are taught by our ISM trained teachers; Adrienne Baxter, Jamiee Bothwell, Cheryllyn Callander, Tony Rowley and Nicky Fryer. Graduates are taught in the private studio by Lyn Malakou.
Performance opportunities are offered during the ISM year, with all group students parctipating in the annual ISM Christmas Concert. Private piano students also take part in recitals as organised by the director, and also sit ABRSM piano and theory exams if they wish.
All staff at the International School of Music are passionate about music and music education, and look forward to taking you and your child on a musical journey!
